Warren "Sandy" Barnard
(Full 2007 & 2008 Schedule below)
For
the rest of 2007 and in 2008, Sandy Barnard will be
continuing his busy schedule of research, writing and
publishing on topics associated with the Indian wars, the
Little Bighorn battle and the Civil War. He hopes to finish
the manuscript for his own next book, Custer and Elliott:
Comrades in Controversy, by late 2007 or early 2008.
Publication should follow in 2008. We'll keep you apprised
of the production schedule on this long planned biography of
Major Joel Elliott, killed with Custer at the Battle of the
Washita in 1868.
He also hopes to complete work on one to two new books for
other authors. The first will be a new edition of the 1985
book by Craig Repass, Custer for President? No date has been
set for it. However, the next edition of Greasy Grass
magazine, the annual publication of the Custer Battlefield
Historical & Museum Association, will be published in May
2008.
Sandy will continue to make appearances at book signings and
speaking engagements. See his calendar below. Despite his
busy schedule, he is still accepting some requests to speak.
If you would like Sandy to attend a book signing or speak to
your organization, please feel free to contact him. His
major talks range from the life of Custer, the Battle of the
Little Bighorn and major players in Custer’s career, such as
First Sergeant John Ryan, reporter Mark Kellogg and Major
Joel Elliott, to other aspects of the 7th U.S. Cavalry and
its activities in the years following the Civil War. Two of
his most popular topics are “Digging into Custer’s Last
Stand,” the story behind the archeological projects at
Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, and “Where
Custer Fell,” the story of the historical photographs of
that famous battlefield. Both are adaptations from what are
probably his most popular and best known books.
In addition, he is adept at speaking about events of the
Civil War, including Custer's own career, as well as the
Irish Brigade of Brig. Gen. Thomas Francis Meagher and the
28th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He also has
a fascinating talk that he recently added — a comparison of
the Great Sioux War campaign of 1876 and the Little Bighorn
battle to the British campaign against the Zulus.
